Bird & Animal Checklists

Just as the natural area supports a diversity of plant communities, these plant communities support a diversity of animal life. This mosaic of different habitats supports both forest birds such as the Blue-headed Vireo and Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and grassland birds such as the Clay-colored and Savannah Sparrows. With this mix of both forest and grassland bird communities, over a hundred bird species have been identified within the natural area. The area also supports numerous White-tail Deer as well as smaller animals such as Porcupine and Red Squirrel. In addition to its diverse vertebrate fauna, the natural area also is home to numerous insect species. There are records of over 20 different butterfly species as well as over 250 species of moths. Other insect groups are also well represented, including dragonflies and damselflies, beetles, and grasshoppers, making the natural area a great stop for the entomologically inclined.

Below you will find printable checklists of the mammal, bird, butterfly and lepidopteran fauna. Please feel free to let us know of any new species records for the natural area.
